Our amazing Nurse Ellie on campus became our garden steward- planting and tending to all the gardens in our courtyard.  She made our campus so beautiful and full of life.

The kinders and I walked by this sunflower every day, watching it grow and anticipating the day it would bloom. We read and learned all about sunflowers and seeds as we made our daily observations, connecting what we read in books to what we saw happening right before our eyes.

We also watched a few cool time lapses on youtube.  I will love to make these one day, when I have the right kind of technology to make it easy to teach and record as we go!

Our nurse gave us the head once the flower had finished blooming!  At first we thought it hadn’t made any seeds, but once we started to pass it around, feel, and examine it closer, we realized that the seeds were hiding under the little green parts that were once part of the flower.

We planted the seeds to start the cycle over again!
